Who We Are

Letourneau LLP is a full-service law firm focused on Matrimonial, Divorce and Family law, Civil and Commercial Litigation, Arbitration, Mediation, Real Estate, Business Law, Immigration, and Estate Planning & Administration.

Our Beliefs

Our goal is to completely change the way law is practiced.

The END of TIME -
Unless requested by our clients, we prefer not to keep track of time on matters that we are helping you to solve.  We always try to complete work on a predictable cost basis.

We don't believe in keeping time.

At Letourneau LLP, we desire to practice law in a more predictable and more problem-solving centred manner, and in particular to do away with the business of charging for legal services on the basis of the time spent doing it.  Letourneau LLP is here to help you solve your disputes or problems, or assist with your legal needs, with dignity and with an unprecedented level of predictability regarding costs, and with an outcomes-oriented approach. Further, when you hire us, you hire a team, not just one lawyer.

How We Charge

At Letourneau LLP, we will assist you in one of the following ways:

1. Periodic Retainer

You pay us a regular fee each month, and we will take care of all of your legal needs, including litigation.  This monthly fee is reviewed periodically to adjust for the amount of work you require.  This is especially attractive for businesses, institutions and individuals with regular legal needs or problems.

2. Fixed Fees

We will assess your situation and will quote you a fixed fee for a particular solution.  We will stick to this fee unless a significant change occurs, at which time, we will quote you an adjusted fixed fee, which again, we will stick to.  We will often provide quotes for various options that we think will potentially solve your problem.

3. Litigation Retainers - Alternatives

a. We will charge a fixed monthly retainer during the preparation phase of the litigation (i.e. up to but not including the hearing). This is calculated by working out the likely total costs and spreading that out over the period that we estimate it is likely to take before the hearing occurs. We can  estimate both these factors quite accurately.

If there are periods where nothing at all happens (as is sometimes the case during a lengthy litigation, for example while waiting for a hearing date), then you may not be charged at all during those months.

We will then charge a separate fixed fee per day during the hearing itself. We do this because the work involved during a hearing is substantially greater and more intensely concentrated than during the preparation phase; and because many cases actually settle before they go to hearing. This way, we protect you from paying for the most expensive aspect (the hearing) if we help you to achieve an earlier settlement.

We will always work as a team on your disputes and problems, and will often have more than one counsel at the litigation table in the courtroom.

b. We charge a fixed fee for the litigation matter, which is payable regardless of the outcome. This may be attractive in cases where there is a high likelihood that the other side will "go all the way" (i.e. to a final hearing). It provides complete certainty as to cost.  Again, you are buying our team, not just one lawyer.
c. We will charge fixed fees for specified stages of the litigation matter as it progresses (e.g. preparing pleadings, settlement negotiation, 4-way meetings, discovery, evidence, hearing).
