Adam Letourneau, K.C. believes in a compassionate, balanced manner of practicing law. His passion is helping people of all backgrounds through their difficult legal situations while maintaining a sense of dignity.
Adam's practice is currently primarily focused on divorce and family law, arbitration and mediation. He has negotiated and advocated for numerous divorce, parenting, support and property matters. Adam also regularly represents children in separation matters.
Adam has mediated and arbitrated many disputes, including civil, employment, labour, employment and family disputes. He is a roster member of the Alberta Labour Relations Grievance Arbitration Roster. He is as an appointed tribunal member for the Board of Reference -Alberta Education. He is a Public Member of the CPA (Chartered Public Accountants) Alberta Discipline and Appeal Tribunals Roster. Adam holds designations as both a Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb) and a Chartered Mediator (C.Med) through the ADR Institute of Canada. Adam also works in and is well versed in real estate law, wills and estate planning, and other areas of law, and does work in these areas.
Adam was appointed as King's Counsel (KC) on April 10, 2015. King's Counsel is an honourary appointment given to select lawyers in recognition of their contributions to the legal profession and public life.
Adam was elected as Bencher (governor) of the Law Society of Alberta with two terms -- in 2011 and then from 2014-2018. He has served on the Board of Directors of Legal Aid Alberta, is the former Chairman of Rupertsland Institute, a Métis Centre for Excellence and the former Chairman of Apeetogosan (Métis) Development Inc., an aboriginal financial institution, and has served on various boards over the years.
Adam received a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Alberta. He was awarded a post graduate Master of Laws (LLM) degree specializing in International Dispute Resolution from UCL (University College London)
and Queen Mary University of London. He also holds a BA degree in English and a BSc degree in psychology.
Adam was an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge from 2016 to 2024, teaching Employment and Labour Law, The Art of Negotiation, as well as Business Law at various times.
Adam is a proud citizen of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
Adam was 2nd Vice President and a Board Director of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice from 2019 to 2024, serving as Chair of the Circle of Indigenous Peoples, Chair of the Mediation Committee and has served on the Governance, Strategic Planning and Audit committees.
Adam and his wife, Carmen, have five children. In his spare time, Adam enjoys writing, playing the guitar, fitness, running, hiking, biking, and playing with his family.
