Michael grew up in
Coaldale, Alberta and attended
law school at the University of Alberta. During law school he
spent a
summer working at the Yellowhead Tribal Council, an advocacy and
organizational
group for a number of First Nations bands. Michael found his work at
the
council some of the most challenging and satisfying of his legal
career.
After graduating
from law school, Michael worked for a law firm in Lethbridge, Alberta
where he
spent the majority of his time working on real estate transactions and
secured
lending. It was here that he began pursuing his keen interest in water
law, an
interest since law school. Michael participated in
preparing a submission
to the International Joint Commission on the St. Mary and Milk Rivers.
He also
acted on behalf of individuals selling water rights in a southern
Alberta river
basin. Michael and his family then moved to Whitecourt, Alberta. In
Whitecourt
Michael worked for a law firm focusing on real estate transactions and
family
law. In addition to his work as a lawyer, Michael was a member of the
board of
directors of Lornes Blanket and Wellspring and the Men’s and Women’s
shelters
in Whitecourt.
Michael is
excited
to be back in Southern Alberta. Both he and his wife, Jenie, are happy
to be
settled in family-friendly Raymond. In his spare time, Michael enjoys
reading,
horseback riding, golfing and spending time with his family. Michael
attends
our Raymond office Mondays and Fridays, and our Lethbridge office
Tuesday to
Thursday.
